Deviousness |
I think it's not quite evil enough yet, and the bullets could deserve a bit more realism, maybe make them more shiny for a better metal effect, because they look quite synthetic and dull compared to the rest. Perhaps you could change the color of the bullets from silver to gold if you like.
I also think that the artwork should be centered in the wallpaper because hate has a very powerful meaning, also you'd get more space on the left side for more symmetries using guns and the like. I have nothing against burying "hate" a bit in the picture so it doesn't stand out too much, but isn't it a bit too buried at the moment?
I like your concept of creating surreal forms using real world objects to represent the subject though. It's not an easy task.
Who knows, maybe you could evolve it by putting additional components that with guns and hate create a specific message.
For example the view of Aristotle that hate is a feeling that is incurable by time. You could depict this endlessness somehow. Just an idea.
Or creating a stronger critique by placing things that make the composition somehow cynical. You've got plenty of things to pick
so first to the bullets: if you meant the ones between the guns, it's kinda hard to see, but these are handgranades, but eventhough the suggestion to make them silver or gold and give them a kinda fancy, elegant look is a great idea (with the other point of you about the ironic thing in mind)
i thought about centering the elements the first time but was not sure, but, again, you're totally right.
and i also REALLY have to work on the "hate" scripture!
i thought about putting other objects than weapons into it. it will follow some more skulls, but that's not enough. i don't want to put politicans in it... and family members is also bad
the endlessness of hate you meantioned is a thing i didn't thought about, but quite interesting!! if you have any suggestions how to make that visually possible, tell me! i also try to figur out some things.
oh, for inspiration, do you know any great metal band posters?
the cynical part is also something i forgot, but a wonderfull component!!
btw i'm the biggest fan of your critique
Actually I don't mean the hand grenades but the four huge silver bullets facing upwards.
Regarding the endlessness thing: You could add the Element of Time by choosing a metaphor that represents infinity. Anything with a clock or something. I can't really think of something specific right now... Uhm there is a symbol for infinity in math that I really love: ∞
You can find it in the Character Map on your Mac or just copy it here and paste it in Photoshop.
Besides that you could add a human in a dramatic pose, such as holding his or her face with the hands looking downwards, maybe just a big portrait instead of a full body photo. I'm sure there are a lot of stock images of this type on dA. This could emphasize the kind of frustration that is felt as long as someone is really hating someone else. Actually I tend to visualize person A hating person B, but what kind of hate are you trying to present? It could be hating an event, or even the person in the picture hating itself.
There are quite a few options.
And yes, I know a Metal band poster that I personally own and has at least the subject of hate in it, since the band centers many songs around that topic.
It's one by Chimaira and you can take a look at it here:

Not a terrific work of art but I like the band, so who cares?
cheers
the people are blended into the backround on the left side and the time elements are included on the right side. the center piece is now colored "professionaly" and the scripture is implemented into it... puh. (au mi mäc got bi 730MB halber ind knüh...
